What does an AI marketing agency cost? A plain-English guide to retainers, what drives the price, what is usually included and how to compare quotes.

Most agencies make you book a call before they tell you what anything costs. That is frustrating when you are simply trying to work out whether a project is realistic. So here is the honest version of how AI marketing agency pricing works, including our own.

The three common pricing models

  • Monthly retainer: a fixed fee each month for an agreed scope. This is the most common model for ongoing marketing such as SEO, content and ads.
  • Project fee: a one-off price for a defined piece of work, such as a website or a strategy roadmap.
  • Hourly or day rate: usually reserved for consulting and training. It is rarely the best fit for ongoing marketing.
  1. Monthly retainer: Fixed fee for an agreed scope. Best for ongoing SEO, content and ads.
  2. Project fee: One price for a defined deliverable such as a website or a roadmap.
  3. Hourly or day rate: Best for advice, consulting and training, less so for ongoing work.
The three ways agencies usually charge

What typical retainers look like

Published prices vary a lot between agencies, and many hide them. A common pattern is a small-business tier in the low thousands of dollars per month, a growth tier several thousand higher and a custom enterprise tier above that. Treat any single number you read online as a rough guide and ask for a written scope.

Our own plans are public. Launch is $2,500 per month and covers strategy, four AI-assisted content pieces per month, an SEO audit and setup, monthly reporting and support. Growth is $5,000 per month and adds Google and Meta advertising, marketing automation, website and presentation design, bi-weekly strategy calls and priority support. Enterprise is custom.

What drives the price up or down

  • Number of channels: SEO alone costs less than SEO plus ads plus automation.
  • Volume of content: ten articles a month needs more work than four.
  • Ad spend: this is paid to the ad platforms, not the agency. It is separate from the agency fee.
  • Competition: a crowded market takes more effort to win.
  • Speed of approvals: slow feedback loops cost everyone time.

Does AI make marketing cheaper?

Partly. AI speeds up research, drafting, testing and reporting, which lowers the time cost of those tasks. It does not remove the need for strategy, editing and judgement, which are where good agencies earn their fee. Be cautious of an agency that promises dramatically lower prices purely because they use AI. The savings should show up as more output or faster testing, not as lower quality.

What to check in any quote

  1. Exactly what is delivered each month, in numbers.
  2. Who does the work and who reviews it.
  3. Whether ad spend is separate and who controls the ad accounts.
  4. The contract length and how to cancel.
  5. How and how often you will get reports.

How to decide

Start with your goal and a monthly budget you are comfortable with, then ask which plan delivers the most relevant work for it. If you are not sure where to begin, a free audit shows where the quick wins are before you commit to anything.
