A practical checklist to refresh existing content for AI search: structure, answers, entities, freshness and technical access.
You do not need new content to appear in AI search. Often the fastest gains come from refreshing pages you already have. Use this checklist.
Structure
- Put a short direct answer in the first paragraph.
- Use headings that mirror real questions.
- Break long text into short paragraphs and lists.
- Add an FAQ for follow-up questions.
Substance
- Add specific detail: steps, examples, numbers you can support.
- State who the content is for and when it does not apply.
- Remove filler and repeated points.
Entities and trust
- Make business and author details clear.
- Keep descriptions consistent across your site and profiles.
- Link to credible sources where you cite facts.
Freshness
- Show a clear date and update it when you genuinely revise.
- Remove out-of-date claims and prices.
Technical
- Make sure pages are indexable and fast.
- Do not hide key information in images.
- Add relevant structured data.
Prioritise
Start with pages that already get traffic or that answer high-intent buyer questions. Re-test your key prompts after a month.
- Structure: Direct answer first, clear headings
- Substance: Specific detail, honest scope
- Entities and trust: Clear author and business details
- Freshness: Real dates, current claims
- Technical: Indexable, fast, structured data
